ROBERT GABLE
American
1918-2005

Robert Gable born in 1918 in Hollidaysburg, PA is a graduate of the Philadelphia Museum School of Art. He also studied at the Art Students League in NYC, the Wolfe School of Design in LA, the Academy of Design, the School of Visual Arts and the New School in NYC.

He was art director of the Carlton Press in NYC, worked as a fashion illustrator for 10 years and in the Scenic Department of NBC for 8 years and as a teacher in NYC.

Gable had his first one-man show at the Leslie/Lohman Gallery in 1977. He later exhibited at the Robert Samuel Gallery NYC. He has also shown at the Hebble Gallery in West Orange, NJ and Multiple Images in Palm Beach, Florida. He was also part of the Advocate Show in NYC.

His works are in the collections of Virgil Fox, Robert Hebble, Harlan Blake and many more.

In his show at the Leslie/Lohman Gallery in 2000 Wayne Snellen, director/curator, writes, "Robert Gable paints the model in the studio in a warm and relaxed manner. His work evolves from the long tradition of western figure painting evoking a mastery of paint and understanding of the male form. Warm tones radiate a naturalness and confidence only developed through a true understanding of the male figure from continual practice and a sure eye. There is a gentleness and warmth in these painings based on a pure humanity."
