The Queer Men’s Erotic Art Workshop had its third exhibition of Dirty Little Drawings in the galleries of LLGAF, Oct. 21–Nov. 8, 2005.

The title of the show is tongue-in-cheek since it refers to the actual size of the artwork; all of the drawings are exactly five and one half inches by five and one half inches. Within this format is achieved monumental impact, creating gorgeous and desirable works of erotic art easily within the reach of a young collector—every work is priced at $50. [After close of show the works become $120 each, reflecting more closely their true value.] Works are unmatted, unframed and are sold on a cash and carry basis in contrast to the customary gallery procedure in which purchased artwork remains on the walls until the close of a show.

Participation in the exhibition is open to any artist who has ever attended a session of the Workshop. All artwork are one-of-a-kind originals, created either in the Workshop or in the artists’ home studios, in a wide variety of media such as pastel, charcoal, graphite, watercolor, collage, mono-prints, and more. Digital and photographic work will not be included.

LLGAF does not take a commission when artists sell their work, but asks for a 25% tax-deductible donation. For this show, the artists are being asked to donate $5.00 to help with some initial expenses, one piece of artwork for a fund raising raffle, and 20% rather than the normal 25% of their total sales.

The exhibition was curated by the Workshop directors Harvey Redding and Rob Hugh Rosen and Workshop Artist Michi Yamaguchi. The exhibition ran three times as long as in years past, and was divided into three themes: Dirty, Dirtier, and Dirtiest.

Founded by Harvey Redding, and co-directed by Rob Hugh Rosen, The Queer Men’s Erotic Art Workshop meets two evenings per week, when LLGAF allows its gallery space to be turned into an art studio. The sexiest of men who remain fantasies for many of us, pose, allowing artists the opportunity to create erotic images and records of sexual desire inspired directly from life. In many cases “bigger-than-life” would be the better term. Bigger-than-life in pocket-sized format.
