Ron Rubin at the opening of Warhol Explicitly Queer, Sept. 17, 2002,
at LLGAF

Ron Rubin
1932-2004

Ron Rubin artist, designer and great friend of LLGAF passed away in his home on August 17, 2004, the victim of liver complications from Hepatitis C.

Ron born in 1932 in Illinois outside of Chicago attended The Layton School of Art, Milwaukee,WI and The Rhode Island School of Design. He later lived and worked in New York City.

Ron was a dear friend whom I met 20-25 years ago when we were taking part in the panel series, Artist's Talk On Art. He had a wide interest and was able to articulate his thoughts clearly.

The first works of Ron's I ever saw were beautiful abstract pieces using chemicals on plates which were allowed to set in the open for the chemicals to react. His figure drawings were the most beautiful line drawings I have ever seen. The line was exquisite. He began attending the Queer Men's Erotic Art Workshop at LLGAF in 2002 and exhibited with the group. It had been years since he had drawn from a live model and he found the interaction with fellow artists to be stimulating and freeing.

He worked in New York as a knitwear designer and taught knitwear design at Parsons, NYC and at Albright ollege in Pennsylvania. He delighted in teaching. He said, "the young people keep me alive."

Recently he was very happy about being able to reestablish relationships with his family. We shall miss him.
